The importance of reading – English Paragraph

Reading is an essential skill that holds immense importance in the life of anyone, be it a student or an adult. Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam once said – “Reading shaped my dreams, and more reading helped me make my dreams come true.” Reading broadens a student’s knowledge and understanding of the World around them. It is necessary to develop the habit of reading daily. It also improves a student’s critical thinking, sense of discipline, concentration, and problem-solving abilities. However, reading is neither limited to any academic syllabus nor only to students. Even reading a newspaper or magazine enriches our vocabulary and keeps us well informed about the development across the World, helping us make an informed decision. Reading story books helps readers develop creativity and express themselves more effectively in writing and speech. While reading various books on a topic, we get to know the perspective of multiple authors and thus widen our views rather than sticking to one particular notion which might be wrong. People like Rabindranath Tagore, Abraham Lincoln, Swami Vivekananda and many more kept reading throughout their lives and became pioneers in many reforms. Apart from my syllabus, I am very fond of reading story books and never miss the chance to visit our library. Storybooks can be from various genres, but my favourite is an adventure. I like reading the book Secret Island and many books from The Famous Five series. Every weekend, I have kept aside two hours to read story books in our library, which refreshes me.
